I love apple fritters, but the ones available at the local donut shop tend make my tummy a little upset. Something about the oil they use. So here’s my homemade version.
1 cup flour
1/4 cup sugar
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/3 cup milk
1 egg
1 cup peeled apple chopped into small bits
Coconut Oil
Glaze:
2 cups powdered sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons milk
Sift together flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, cinnamon and nutmeg. Whisk together milk and egg and stir into dry ingredients until just combined. Fold in apple. Pour about 1 1/2 inches of oil into skillet. Heat oil on medium high heat. Use a big spoon and kind of dribble batter into hot oil until you get the size of fritter you want, they puff up a bit in the hot oil. Cook until brown, then flip and cook the other side. Transfer to cooling rack placed on top of sheet pan and glaze.
Make glaze by stirring milk and powdered sugar together in a small bowl. Drizzle over apple fritters. Wait approximately 3 minutes for glaze to harden, then flip fritters and drizzle glaze over the other side.
I think I love you…well I know I love this recipe….ever see something on your computer screen, and start drooling? Wishing you could reach into the screen and grab a fritter or two?
Jueseppi, Thank you for your support and your kind words! For some reason, all you comments were in my spam folder and I only just saw them today. I’m new to the wonderful world of blogging and I’ve obviously got a lot to learn.
Best to you, always!

Thank You, Dor!
I wanted to make these tonight but Kenzie and her friends have taken over the kitchen to bake. I can’t wait to make them tomorrow!
Great! I hope y’all like them.
I’ve already bookmarked this recipe because I’d love to make them this weekend. I’m itching to try this. Thanks for the recipe, Lori.
Thank you, Malou! I hope your little girl likes them, mine did. 🙂
Do you know if these can be created with less sugar? Would honey work? I try to stay away from as much sugar and oil as I can these days. They look delicious but very fattening.
I’m sure you could use honey in the fritter, omit the glaze and instead just lightly dust with powdered sugar. Not sure how to get around the oil since they are fried. They definitely are not diet friendly. 🙂
I baked them and omitted the sugar on the outside. They were delicious! I used marmalade in the center along with chopped apple. So good!
Great! I’ll have to try baking them too. Much less fattening than frying. And I bet the marmalade added a nice flavor.
We love your web site, it has engaging articles, Thanks!
